Keywords and content directs traffic to your website

Nowadays, users do not type in url or domain name or use their bookmarks to navigate to your websites. Users search for content. They will key in at the address toolbar either fragments of the url that they remember or the name of your website or just some keywords. They will click on the first link that appeals to them the most. Therefore by having more text content on your website, you are increasing your chances of getting visitors.
For example: you are selling apparels, by checking out https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal, you should be able to filter out a list of keywords that are most descriptive of your products.
Writing an informative column or a blog with the content tuned towards the keywords would generate more relevence hits.

From 3 Hidden Traffic Tactics,
- Download Sites
- Get your Articles in Google News
- Webwire.com
Personally I wouldn’t agree with turning your articles into exe files to avoid duplicate content as suggested in point 1. Somehow I recall reading about Webwire.com or similar doctors the statics. Do post a link here if you know something.
